Machine Details

Nagel TF4 is a high-precision tape finishing system

Nagel builds tape finishing systems, and the application drives the use of right finishing technology. The TF superfinisher is primarily for finishing outer diameters of journals.

The Nagel TF4 is a high-precision tape lapping and micro-finishing machine built by Nagel USA. It is designed to refine cylindrical metal surfaces, journals, faces, and tapered parts to extremely tight tolerances in automotive and manufacturing industries.

Aluminum Oxide, Silicon Carbide and Diamond abrasives glued on a Mylar-backed film serves as the cutting tool. Tapes are available in various grit sizes–from 1 um for ultra fine finishes up to 120 um for aggressive stock removal. Tape is indexed at the beginning of every finishing cycle, so each part sees a new cutting tool. This keeps the surface finish variation to a minimum and permits use of water soluble synthetic coolants as loading is not a concern.

Every machine is custom designed specifically for the application by utilizing proven subsystems.

Low volume flexible machines are designed for quick change over and can be partially or fully automated. High Volume Production systems are fully automated and require very little operator intervention.

Equipment is built to customer specifications.
